A-Z Recycling Guide -- Oil Filters
Oil filters can be drained of most of their residual oil by punching a hole in the solid end of the filter and letting the filter drain for 24 hours. Drained filters may be disposed of through Boulder County's Household Hazardous Waste program. (See below). Some auto shops that accept motor oil also accept oil filters (see "Motor Oil" for more information).

Resident Household Hazardous Waste
Boulder County’s Hazardous Materials Management Facility is open for household hazardous waste drop off from all residents of Boulder County, City and County of Broomfield, and the Town of Erie. Proof of residency (for example, your driver's license, vehicle registration, voter identification, tax certificate, lease agreement or utility bill) is required when you drop-off your wastes. Hazardous wastes are recycled or disposed of properly.
Broomfield, Longmont, and Superior hold annual or periodic hazardous waste collection events for their residents. Please call your local town/city hall for details.
Accepted materials: Unused and unwanted hazardous products year-round from residents of Boulder County, City and County of Broomfield, and Town of Erie. This includes residents of Allenspark, Boulder, Broomfield, Erie, Hygiene, Jamestown, Lafayette, Longmont, Louisville, Lyons, Nederland, Superior, and Ward. Proof of residency (e.g. driving license, voter ID, tax certificate, lease agreement) is required. Materials accepted include household cleaners, solvents, fluorescent tubes, glues, cleaners, pesticides, automotive fluids, automobile batteries, paint and paint products and rechargeable and non-alkaline batteries. Radioactive, explosive, shock-sensitive, infectious, and commercially generated wastes are not accepted.
Business Waste

A-Z Recycling Guide -- Motor Oil
Motor oil is a hazardous material and should never go in curb-side recycling or in trash. Please read below for proper disposal.
Empty oil containers are NOT recyclable and should go in trash.
Many auto parts and auto repair businesses accept oil for recycling. These typically include O'Reilly Auto Parts, AutoZone, NAPA and some Amoco stations. Sometimes a fee is charged. Please call first to confirm that oil is accepted and to find out information about appropriate containers. Used motor oil bottles are not recyclable. Motor oil should never be mixed with any other fluid or chemical, including water. For oil recycling in the Cities of Westminster, Northglenn, and Aurora, call the Metro Area Oil Recycling Hotline at (303) 431-7988. For other locations, go to www.recycleoil.org.
