A-Z Recycling Guide -- Oil Filters
Oil filters can be drained of most of their residual oil by punching a hole in the solid end of the filter and letting the filter drain for 24 hours. Drained filters may be disposed of through Boulder County's Household Hazardous Waste program. (See below). Some auto shops that accept motor oil also accept oil filters (see "Motor Oil" for more information).

Resident Household Hazardous Waste
Boulder County’s Hazardous Materials Management Facility is open for household hazardous waste drop off from all residents of Boulder County, City and County of Broomfield, and the Town of Erie. Proof of residency (for example, your driver's license, vehicle registration, voter identification, tax certificate, lease agreement or utility bill) is required when you drop-off your wastes. Hazardous wastes are recycled or disposed of properly.
Broomfield, Longmont, and Superior hold annual or periodic hazardous waste collection events for their residents. Please call your local town/city hall for details.
Accepted materials: Unused and unwanted hazardous products year-round from residents of Boulder County, City and County of Broomfield, and Town of Erie. This includes residents of Allenspark, Boulder, Broomfield, Erie, Hygiene, Jamestown, Lafayette, Longmont, Louisville, Lyons, Nederland, Superior, and Ward. Proof of residency (e.g. driving license, voter ID, tax certificate, lease agreement) is required. Materials accepted include household cleaners, solvents, fluorescent tubes, glues, cleaners, pesticides, automotive fluids, automobile batteries, paint and paint products and rechargeable and non-alkaline batteries. Radioactive, explosive, shock-sensitive, infectious, and commercially generated wastes are not accepted.
Business (commerical businesses, agencies, non-profits, institutions, religious organizations, and schools) wastes are accepted by appointment only. Please visit website for details and application:
