Local Businesses Divert more than 8,000 lbs of Electronics by hosting their own Eco-Cycle Hard-to-Recycle Events!
In April 2014, two Zero Waste Businesses -- Level 3 Communications and Via Mobility Services -- hosted their own recycling drive for hard-to-recycle items with some help from Eco-Cycle, diverting thousands of pounds of materials including electronics, block foam (Styrofoam) and bike parts from the landfill.
Level 3 Communications, a global communications company and internet service provider, held a 1-day hard-to-recycle event for their employees at their worldwide headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado. They collected 6,360 pounds of electronics from the community, as well as some block foam (Styrofoam) and bicycle parts, and saw almost seventy cars drive in with material throughout the day. Eco-Cycle assisted in organizing the event, collecting materials and transporting them to our various recyclers.
For the entire month of April, Boulder-based Via Mobility Services held a hard-to-recycle event to give their employees the opportunity to recycle broken or unwanted electronics from home. In total, Via Mobility staff recycled 2,000 pounds of electronics! These materials were hauled away by Eco-Cycle at the end of the Month. Via is a Boulder-based nonprofit that offers seniors and persons with disabilities transportation options to help them live more self-sufficient and independent lives.
