Zero Waste Community & Business Awards Luncheon
Business Nomination Form

Each year, hundreds of businesses work with Eco-Cycle to recycle, compost and make environmentally-sustainable purchasing decisions, doing their part to help our community become a model for Zero Waste. Did your business make remarkable strides toward Zero Waste in 2007? If so, we want to hear about it and recognize your successes!

Nominate your business today for an award at Eco-Cycle’s Zero Waste Community & Business Awards Luncheon. The event will be held on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 at the St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder and will honor Zero Waste accomplishments by community members and businesses alike. A panel of community judges will evaluate the nominees and elect the winners. So, don’t be shy — start bragging!

The nomination period has ended.

Three awards will be given in each of two categories. Check the category that applies to your business or organization:

For all award categories, please answer the following five questions.

1. Describe how your internal collection system has made it easy and convenient for employees to separate materials and what type of unusual materials you are keeping out of the waste stream (for instance, through recycling, composting, and/or reusing, repairing or recycling hard-to-recycle materials).

2. How are your purchasing practices supporting your waste reduction objectives? Have you taken strides to design waste out of your production stream?

3. Tell us how your business is measuring the success of your program. (For example: How have you communicated Zero Waste goals and progress with employees and the community? Do you have an Environmental Management System (EMS) or green team that organizes sustainability initiatives and monitors success? Have you participated in waste sorts?)

4. What else should we know about the sustainability program within your business? (For example: Are you working with resource conservation organizations such PACE or ConservED to reduce water and energy consumption? Are employees encouraged to use alternative transportation or given awards for sustainability achievements?)

5. A successful Zero Waste program usually requires a bit of creativity and fun. Tell us about any fun programs or customizations you’ve made to maximize your program while minimizing waste.

Please provide up to three digital photos that best illustrate your Zero Waste program in action. Please email your photos to Erin Makowsky.

Thank you for nominating this business for a Zero Waste Business Award!

Winners will be announced at Eco-Cycle’s Zero Waste Community & Business Awards Luncheon on Earth Day, April 22, 2008.
