Wirth Chair Award
In April 2005, Executive Director Eric Lombardi was presented with the Wirth Chair Award for promoting sustainable principles in the Boulder community. Specifically, Lombardi was commended by the Wirth Chair in Environmental and Community Development Policy for his “innovative efforts to make community recycling a daily reality at both the commercial and residential levels, to shape new policies for landfills, and to increase manufacturers’ responsibility for the effects of their products.”
Tim Wirth noted, “Eco-Cycle is synonymous with recycling and environmental conservation in Colorado. They brought recycling to Boulder 30 years ago and continue to lead our community into the next era of environmental sustainability.”
NOVA Award
Eco-Cycle and the Boulder Farmers’ Market received the 2005 NOVA Environment Award from the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County. The award highlighted both organizations’ involvement in putting together the first Zero Waste Farmers’ Market in the country.
CDPHE Environmental Leadership Program
Our Zero Waste efforts have also been acknowledged by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Eco-Cycle was accepted into the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program at the Bronze Level for its efforts to create Zero Waste models in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. The Environmental Leadership Program is a statewide environmental recognition and reward program administered by the CDPHE’s Sustainability Program.
