Support the Boulder County Compost Facility!
Boulder County is building a new compost facility and your voice is needed to support this facility through the land use approval process currently underway.
In the fight for a balanced climate, there are important and significant actions communities can and must take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One of the best ways to immediately reduce methane, one of the most powerful of greenhouse gases, is by creating infrastructure to keep organic discards out of the landfill and turn them into compost. Then, by providing finished compost to residents and local farmers, communities can increase the ability of healthy soils and plants to pull even more carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it safely in the soil as carbon where it belongs--REVERSING climate change.
A local compost facility would help make composting more accessible and affordable in Boulder County, and will create a “closed loop” for organics! Boulder County recognizes this opportunity and responsibility, and is taking action and setting a model for other cities to follow by moving forward with building a local compost facility. But they need public support to ensure the facility is built!
We’ve joined a coalition of local climate activists, local farmers, and regenerative ag advocates. Learn more about the coalition, the compost facility, and frequently asked questions by visiting the website. Please take a moment to read our fact sheet.
Here are two things you can do to help:
-
Submit your comments to the county this week, if possible! We can’t emphasize enough how important your feedback is to making this long-needed facility come to fruition!
-
Use info on the website and the fact sheet to spread the word, spread accurate information and encourage others to submit comments in support of the facility! There are several threads online already (Nextdoor, FB, etc.) about this project, and many of the comments are misinformed. Please refer to this fact sheet to answer questions and provide it as a resource to those who need it!
