Developing Replicable Models

With feedback from our three-year urban carbon farming trial, and a toolkit of resources and videos, we are turning the Community Carbon Farmer study into a model that can be shared widely. We are also working with communities that have local organizations capable of providing direct support to local participants.

As one of our main goals for this project is for other communities to be able to replicate the study, we launched the Observational Carbon Farming project. The idea is to create a do-it-yourself version that an individual, school, or community group can participate in easily, and still contribute to the database we are helping to build to measure carbon sequestration in plots scattered across North America. Hopefully, that database will provide solid science for determining the best ways to verify and credit land managers who sequester carbon over time. We are working closely with three groups we are working in Bedford, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; and in Durango, CO to get their feedback as they use the model to begin satellite projects within their respective communities.
