We’ve all been there. We stand in front of a recycling bin with something that we’re not sure is recyclable, but we HOPE it is. So with all the best intentions, we toss it in the recycling bin because it’s too painful to send it to the landfill. We have a name for this in the recycling biz — “wish-cycling”: putting non-recyclable items in the recycling bin with the hopes it will be recycled. And although wish-cycling is something we’ve all done with the best of intentions, it can lead to a host of negative impacts.
