Longmont United Hospital is our April 2014 Zero Waste Business of the Month!
Through their recycling and composting programs, Longmont United upholds their mission statement of improving the health of their community. Last year, the hospital composted over 40 tons of food waste from their cafeterias with Eco-Cycle! That’s organic material that would have otherwise been buried in a landfill and converted into methane, a potent greenhouse gas. They are also doing their part to close the loop on recycling by enacting purchasing policies that show preference to items made from recycled materials. This supports the recycling industry by creating demand and strengthening the markets for the things we put in our recycling bins every day.
Thank you and congratulations to Longmont United Hospital! Keep up the good work!
