At Eco-Cycle, we believe in the power of individual and community action to transform society’s throw-away ethic into environmentally responsible stewardship. Our vision is that our “take-make-waste” society is replaced with circular economy strategies here in Colorado, throughout the nation, and around the world. We partner with corporations who want to be part of this hopeful future, because we know that we can do more together!

Partnering to Create Impactful Solutions
- CHANGE SYSTEMS, NOT JUST INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR: We innovate, implement, and advocate for local and global Zero Waste solutions to transform our “take-make-waste” society into a functional and sustainable circular economy.
- SOLUTIONS THROUGH COLLABORATION: We believe in the power of working together. By engaging with all sectors of the community—schools, businesses, government, and residents—we ensure that the solutions we implement truly work for different demographics.
- GRASSROOTS ACTION: We empower individuals to understand the impacts of Zero Waste actions at a personal level, while also providing opportunities to engage with larger systems change.
- BUILDING ZERO WASTE COMMUNITIES: We organize and support local communities to shift their systems toward Zero Waste through public education and outreach, policy advocacy, Zero Waste services, infrastructure development, and more.
- CENTER SOCIAL JUSTICE: We recognize that true and lasting systemic change must address how the impacts of climate change exacerbate racial and economic disparities. We are committed to listening to, learning from, and engaging with all people, regardless of identity or belief, to create an inclusive and just movement for a climate-resilient future.
Together we are making change happen!
- Thanks to the monumental Producer Responsibility bill we passed in 2022, we are developing and implementing a uniform recycling system in Colorado that requires producers to pay for the recycling of packaging they put into the market, making recycling free and more accessible for all Coloradans starting in 2026.
- We championed the passage of Colorado’s groundbreaking Plastic Pollution Reduction Act that banned the distribution of plastic bags by large retailers in 2024. To date, over 1.5 BILLION plastic bags have been kept out of circulation in Colorado thanks to this bill.
- We engage with over 32,000 K–12 students and 4,000 school staff at 66 schools through our Green Star Schools program, which introduces compost collection to schools and improves recycling rates to help schools divert up to 67% of their waste from landfills.
- We are expanding our Schools program to Title 1 schools to provide environmental education, field trips, infrastructure, and supplies, such as our Zero Waste Event kits (reusable dishware for classroom parties and school events) and used books collected through our Eco-Cycle CHaRMed Books Program.
- We collected more than 3.5 million pounds of materials from over 55,000 customers at the Eco-Cycle/City of Boulder Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM) in 2022–2023. This first-of-its-kind facility, founded and operated by Eco-Cycle, currently diverts more than 25 (and counting!) categories of materials that are not accepted in curbside recycling.
- We recycled roughly 48,000 tons (or 93.5 million pounds) of single-stream material annually at the Boulder County Recycling Center (BCRC). Eco-Cycle championed the campaign to fund and build the BCRC, and has been its operator since it opened in 2000.
